Test Pattern [N°12] by Ryoji Ikeda – Challenging the Threshold of Human Perception
This immersive installation commissioned by Store X The Vinyl Factory is now open at Studio One, Store Studios, 180 The Strand in London. The latest iteration by artist and composer Ryoji Ikeda converts real-time data signals from text, music, sound, photo and video into tightly synchronised barcode patterns and a monochrome binary system of 0s and 1s. With an intense flickering of black and white imagery convulsing at ultra speed, viewers are enclosed in this disorientating yet highly charged kinetic environment. Aiming to examine the relationship critical points of device performance, this audio-visual artwork challenges the threshold of human perception.
